THEMED MEET RETROSPECT
Modelling the Transition ERA

It's the people who make a meeting successful.

Modelling the Transition Era (1940s-1950s) was a Themed Meet organised by the Northumbria Sub Division of the NMRA British Region on Sept. 1st 2007.
It was held in the Columbia Community Centre in Washington, Tyne & Wear

The photos were taken late on Saturday when most of our visitors had left.

The largest exhibit was Westmorland Junction .... PRR in the 1940s from the Newcastle & District MRS. Still bare boards and track we had lots of fun running our toys.
In the foreground Self with the late George Watson ( C & G models). The pained look is mainly down to spending several hours on Friday night re-wiring the layout thanks to a nightmare short circuit.

The legendary Fleetwood Shawe ( seated ) and John Rigg (right) brought this interesting switching demo in Gauge O. Fleetwood's locos are battery powered and radio controlled.

Chris Hobbs, the NMRA British Region president was one of our visitors. He and his wife assisted us over the two days of the event.

The Sub Div 'Railettes' manned the refreshments. Here is Eileen Wright in her domain. 'Railette' Bev Anderson will be seen later.

Philip Dove on the door.
Phil gave an interesting clinic on the subject 'Freight Cars ...Getting the Balance Right'.

Mike Scott with his freight car weathering demonstration.
Mike also brought a slide show seen on the monitor behind.

Mick Simpson a well known 2mm Finescale modeller gave us a demo on etched brass kit construction.

Parkington Books. Yet another shot of Wilf and his library.

Mike Fishwick( centre ) brought his entertaining HO switching layout 'Strowger'. He was helped by his stepson

Jon Grant gave us a demo/clinic on the locomotives of Sweethome Chicago and their DCC / Soundchips

Alan Pearson and his delightful N Gauge module 'Castlefield.
Jon Grant takes a photograph.

Dave Bywater examines Alan Pearson's tree making display.

Bob Gallatly brought his 'Roanoke Roundhouse' in HO. He is seen here with Bev Anderson our other 'Railette' on the day.

Roanoke Roundhouse features one of the new Walthers turntables and a fine array of N & W steam locos.

Westmorland Junction again. Sub Div members Terry Lawson ( black shirt ) and Nigel Anderson ( in white ) watch while John Pearson a fellow PRR enthusiast from Chester runs his N & W Y6b

Fleetwood demonstrates the power of his Bowser I1 2-10-0. Like his O Gauge USA locos the I1 is battery powered and radio controlled.

Bob Jones, the well known maker of Fencehouses Model Foundry 2mm Finescale kits gave us a demonstration of the CAD he uses to design his products. At our meeting he was working on etchings for a K4 110p-75a tender for the popular Bachmann HO model.

By 4pm we called it a day. Ian Fergusson sums up how most of us were feeling after two days of good fun and downright hard work.
Eight of us finished off the proceedings with a splendid meal at the Biddick Inn down by the River Wear.
