Franklinsburg station and the mainline is built on a high level through the town. It is assumed that when the PRR built its original line the first depot was at the low level where the freight yard is presently situated. When the line was extended to Charleston, over the Ohio River, the low level course was not viable, hence the higher route was built (at considerable expense). The tunnels provide freight access to an auto assembly plant and the town gas company. Continental Modeller.
